Local officials react to Pope retiring

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The pope's resignation carries a special meaning here in the Valley. Pope Benedict XVI cannonized Mother Theodore Guerin.
Sister Denise Wilkinson is the General Superior of the Sisters of Providence. She traveled to the Vatican during the cannonization. She like most of the world was shocked when the Pope announced his abdication. She said she'll always have respect for him as person.
"My overwhelming impression of him was kindness that came from him. He had very, very kind eyes," Sister Denise Wilkinson said.
