Light House Mission prepares for winter

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Cooler weather means more of the Wabash Valley's homeless will look for a place to stay.

The Light House Mission is getting ready to help those in need.

Housing organizers say they've already had a few people come in on chilly nights.

The non-for-profit says its busiest time is fall and winter, beginning in late October.

Now, it's accepting donations, updating its website and hosting food drives.

"Summer time, they can live in tents, and they can get by with the hot weather, but when it starts getting cold, it's very hard to stay warm and so, as the temperatures drop, the further they drop, the more people we see that needs help here," Light House Mission Director of Development Bonnie Wallace said.

The Mission says it has space now for people in need.

It serves three meals a day to help stretch families' budgets.

However, the Mission is in need of donations.
