Light House Mission in need of food

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - For a lot of us, summer break means fun in the sun.

However, for some families living in the Wabash Valley, you can't have fun if you're hungry.

"Bills are going up, groceries are going to go up, because all this hot air, hot weather we've had, 106 for Terre Haute, I thought I lived in the desert," Paulette Nicoson said.

Terre Haute's Light House Mission is in a food shortage this summer.

"We're seeing a lot more people actually coming into the mission to eat and it's nice to be able to provide for it but things are getting a little scarce," Light House Mission CEO Reverend Timothy Fagg said.

On average, volunteers feed 320 people a day.

This year, they're feeding around 360.

Many folks come twice a day every day.

"They help a lot of people and everybody appreciates it, I know I do," Linda Brossman said.

It's been a difficult summer for charity organizations like Light House Mission as they try to help everyone.

However, organizers said as long as people keep coming in, they will never turn you away.

"We're going to have to tell the cook to prepare more it's as simple as that," Reverend Fagg said.

Reverend Fagg said the Vigo County Fair usually helps its supply because vendors donate food from the fair.

The Light House Mission is accepting monetary and food donations at its Wabash Avenue location:

1450 Wabash Avenue
Terre Haute, IN 47807

If you have bulk items, volunteers will pick them up from you.

You can also visit their website and make a secure online donation. thlhm.org
