Lawsuit leads to cash for some

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Thousands of victims across Indiana and Illinois could be part of an historic settlement.
The US Attorney’s office made a stop in Terre Haute Wednesday to announce a $335 million settlement against Countrywide Financial Corporation.
Officials say from 2004 through 2008 Countrywide charged more then 200,000 African American and Latino borrowers across the country higher fees and interest rates for mortgage lendings based on their race.
“This was discriminatory, it was predatory, it was wrong and it needs to be addressed,” US Attorney Joseph Hogsett said.
All victims are known, but not everyone has come forward, including more the 5,000 in Illinois and 400 in Indiana.
The US Attorney’s office’s Civil Rights Task Force is urging potential victims to come forward by calling 1-800-843-5148.
