CASEY, Ill. (WTHI) - It's a hot button issue, that's causing lots of discussion in the Land of Lincoln, immigration.
One of the most controversial topics involves illegal immigrants getting a chance to get a drivers license.
News 10 spoke with some Illinois lawmakers about the situation.
"They're here illegally. The constitution doesn't allow for this to happen," Republican Illinois State Rep. Brad Halbrook said.
He said the decision mirrors only one part of what the states wants, specifically Chicago.
Meanwhile, Illinois Republican U.S. Congressman John Shimkus said there could be some merit to the state legislation.
"We would rather have people identified, know who they are, versus have the unknown population out there," Shimkus said.
Meanwhile, Halbrook said he thinks the act will eventually be repealed in Illinois.
