Kyle Marvel apologizes

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A Wabash Valley man accused of beating up an elderly woman apologizes to the public but never says what for.

Kyle Marvel appeared in court Thursday morning for the first time since being arrested for allegedly beating up an elderly woman.

But inside the court room Marvel's court appearance took an interesting twist.

Marvel was also served a warrant Thursday for prior burglary and theft charges that he originally pled guilty for.

Due to the new battery charges, Marvel could be dropped from a deferment program that was part of a plea deal and instead be tried on those prior charges.

News 10 caught up with Marvel after court and asked him what he had to say about his allegations and if he was sorry?

Marvel answered “Yes ma'am” and gave no further comment.

Marvel did not say what he was sorry for but his family did release a statement.

The statement read, “The friends and family of Kyle Marvel believe 100-percent that he did not beat up Mrs. Maples. There are many aspects of the case that have not been investigated. Despite media reports, Kyle has not confessed to these allegations. We believe the true story will come out in court."

Marvel is being held on both a $60,000 and a $20,000 bond for both charges. He’s due back in court August 13th.
