TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Almost a year ago, News 10 brought you a tour of the old federal building in its beginning stages of transformation to ISU's new Scott College of Business.
Tuesday, we visit again, six months before students see it for the first time.
"Just the history of this building and the level of finishes in the building alone is just extraordinary so I think it creates a unique opportunity for the university to serve its students," ISU's Director of Planning and Improvement Bryan Duncan said.
The $16 million project includes about 25 classrooms with state of the art equipment.
Some even have double sided mirror sections with cameras for mock interviews.
That way, students can watch their own projects back.
They've made space for a student commons area, new restrooms on each floor, and rooms once used for federal prisoners now help make up around 40 faculty offices.
Although many changes have been made, the construction team is careful to make sure the original building isn't lost.
Even though their lock boxes aren't usable, they're keeping them to help preserve the history of the building. Meanwhile, ISU's post office is just beyond the federal building's walls.
Light fixtures were refurbished.
The original window frames were preserved, while installing brand new glass, keeping as much natural light as they could.
"You would not be able to build a new building with his level of finishes for anything near that cost," Duncan said.
It's a big move that preserves part of Terre Haute, while creating new opportunities for many.
The building will be completed in June, just in time to move in furniture and equipment.
Students will begin class in August.
