TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A basketball legend from Indiana State University will be honored in bronze.
A 15-foot bronze statue of Larry Bird is being prepared to stand outside ISU's Hulman Center.
Terre Haute sculptor Bill Wolfe is the artist behind the statue. He says he wants to make sure Bird's statue is taller than those of Magic Johnson.
As you might remember, Michigan State beat Bird's Indiana State Sycamores in the 1979 NCAA championship game.
ISU is hoping to dedicate the artwork next fall.
An anonymous donor is funding most of the project.
The ISU foundation is also looking to raise $50,000 for a Larry Legends scholarship by selling small copies of the statue.
