ISU homecoming preparations

Terre Haute, Ind. (WTHI) - Indiana State University's homecoming is just around the corner and already many businesses are preparing for “The Walk”.

Terry Myers owner of Haney’s Bar says he’s been working down to the last minute prepping for ISU's homecoming and the large amount of students that will soon fill his bar.

"We can't usually can't stock enough we'll run out of something. It will be our busiest day for sure,” said Myers.

On Saturday thousands of ISU students will walk down Wabash Avenue towards memorial stadium.

It's part of an underground celebration, covering more than thirty city blocks.

Walkers will stop at businesses along the way, one of those stops is Haney's Bar.

"We get the people that start at 7:00 a.m. in the morning all the way down Wabash and we get the people from the stadium so we kind of get a mix,” said Myers.

As for city preparations, Brad Miller, Director of Terre Haute City's Street Department says they too will play a part and ISU will fit the bill.

"So we felt in light of the budget crunch and everything else that's going on, if an individual or organization wants the street department to close streets and actively participate in setting up barricades, cleaning up afterwards, then we charge what our costs is to do that event,” said Miller.

Both businesses and city leaders are working around the clock for what is considered one of Terre Haute's biggest events of the year.

The event that will lead students to ISU’s homecoming football game, something many look forward too; a local tradition.

Myers says, "The stadium will be booming and it will start at 8 in the morning and oh yea the whole town looks forward to it."

Indiana State University’s football game starts at 3:05 p.m. The team will host Missouri State at Memorial stadium.
