Is Moggers Restaurant and Pub haunted?

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - This time of year a lot of folks head out to haunted houses, but what about a haunted bar?

Moggers Restaurant and Pub has stood up against the test times for almost two centuries in Terre Haute.

It is the birthplace of Champagne Velvet beer and just barely survived Prohibition.

The restaurants namesake comes from German immigrant Matthias Mogger.

Matthias purchased the brewery in 1848. Twenty years later he died on a delivery run.

Legend has it, Matthias' wake was held in the upstairs banquet hall.

He is rumored to have never left the building as his footsteps can be heard throughout the pub.

In its current life as a restaurant, employees and even patrons have witnessed several accounts of spirits and not just the ones behind the bar.

A little girl sitting at a table has been seen by numerous customers and employees.

A customer observed a man in black walking down the basement stairs only to vanish from thin air.

If you walk into the basement there you will find old brewing equipment and a sense of something watching you.

Tunnels have been dug throughout the underground for storage give the basement a dark vibe as sounds of the past echo throughout this old world structure.

So whether these lost souls made a home at Moggers or they're just a figment of the imagination, it may leave visitors wondering if history is trying to make itself present once again.
