ROCKVILLE, Ind. (WTHI) - A Wabash Valley man gets a hero's welcome at the Rockville High School football game.

Matt Kinsey returned to Rockville as the former quarterback and volunteer football coach.

He is home from Afghanistan after receiving a devastating injury.

During Matt's second deployment to Afghanistan, he was out on an operation when things went terribly wrong.

"I jumped off a building. Something didn't look right. I jumped down first, checked it out. And as I turned back I stepped on a landmine and suffered an amputation to my foot, took some shrapnel to my upper arm, and left leg," Matt said.

Matt was transferred to Walter Reed hospital where he made a recovery that stunned his family and doctors.

He was expected to walk after two months and had some hope of running after six months.

Three months after the accident, Matt can run without difficulty.

Now, Matt plans to get back to what he has always loved: Coaching football.
