CHARLESTON, Ill. (WTHI) - Multiple Illinois Police agencies conducted a safety lock-down and canine search at one of the local high schools.
Charleston, Marshall, Effingham, and Casey Police Departments, the Coles County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police conducted the lockdown, authorized by the Charleston Community Unit School District Unit 1 at Charleston High School.
The safety run, which is focused on insuring all agencies involved have to ability to protect their students and detect the any presence of illegal drugs or other contraband, is a proper precaution following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
The school hopes this safety drill will reinforce and reassure parents and staff the school’s a safe and drug-free learning environment for all.
