HUTSONVILLE, Ill. (WTHI) - As the Illinois General Assembly returns to work, News 10 spoke with one Wabash Valley lawmaker for his take on the work ahead.
State Representative Roger Eddy, a Republican from Hutsonville, said many lawmakers are focused on improving Illinois’ business climate in the coming year in hopes of luring new companies and keeping existing businesses in the state.
Eddy said many of his fellow Republicans will push to roll-back an increase in the state’s corporate tax rate and reforms on workers’ compensation.
“They simply can’t produce their product and sell it on the open market because of the high cost of doing business,” Eddy said. “It’s not the just the cost of the corporate tax increase, though that didn’t help. But workers’ comp is also an issue in Illinois.”
Meanwhile, Governor Pat Quinn is scheduled to deliver his State of the State address on Wednesday, and the Governor has said his speech will focus on job creation.
