TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Everyone passes fire hydrants pretty regularly, but do you know what goes into keeping them in tip-top shape? Indiana American Water spends weeks on the 4,500 hydrants in the Terre Haute/Sullivan area.
The company's annual checks are two fold: making sure the water is safe and making sure the hydrants are ready for an emergency.
In 2013, the company added a new job to their work. Indiana American Water is taking over Riley, and the company is working with the Riley Fire Department to get their 46 hydrants up to code.
