CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A hunting trip on Thanksgiving weekend turns fatal.
William Davis, 76, has been climbing the same tree for over 30 years.
This past Friday, he and a friend went out on a Thanksgiving tradition, hunting. However, an accident took his life.
Clay County Sheriff's Department responded to a call at around 10 a.m. on Friday morning at a forest near Bowling Green, just off of 700 East.
"Whenever he thought it was time to leave the woods, he usually one of the two they meet up at an intersection in the trail and he didn't meet up around 10 o'clock so he just thought he'd go check and make sure and found him laying there and called 911," Indiana Conservation Officer Matt Vossmer said.
Once they arrived, they found Davis' body at the base of a tree.
His autopsy revealed that he had trauma to his neck and back, which means he fell from his tree stand.
Officers want to remind hunters to always wear a tree harness to keep you protected.
