How to check your computer for Malware

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The FBI and local internet providers are taking steps to make sure you're staying smart on the internet.

Monday, you could lose your internet service if you don't check your computer for Malware.

It's a scam that took over more than 570,0000 computers around the world.

Now, officials have some advice for you.

Internet specialists stress diligence.

News 10 spoke to Joink, a local internet and TV provider.

Although they don't believe it's a threat for customers in the Wabash Valley, they say it's important to take just a few minutes and check your computer, in case.

According to Joink, Malware has been around for a couple of years.

This particular threat showed itself about six months ago.

Officials detected the problem early on and took care of most issues.

"It's on your computer to solely create havoc, so to speak. It does nothing but harm either the computer that it's run on or misdirects, re-directs when you're trying to get on the internet to a site that you're not intended," Joink Contact Center Manager Lori Furniss said.

To check if your computer is infected, click on this link .

That will direct you to the FBI's site .

If your computer isn't infected, you'll see a green light.

If it is, click on this link to remove Malware.
