VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - According to the Indiana Attorney General's Office, more than 1.8 million residential phone numbers are now registered on the Indiana Do Not Call List.

But now, a new bill waiting on Governor Mitch Daniel's signature, would include cell phone numbers.

This new bill will allow people in Indiana, who use their cell phones as their primary phone, to add those numbers to the state's Do Not Call list.

This would block any unwanted telemarketing phone calls and text messages.

Besides cell phones, Hoosiers can register their prepaid wireless calling and web-based phone services as long as the number is used as their primary phone number.

The Attorney General's Office said telemarketers, who contact people who are on the list, will face the same penalties as a company who would call someone from a land line.

Even though the governor hasn't signed this bill yet, you can still start registering your number.

The service is free and is updated on a quarterly basis; the first of every January, April, July and October.

If you want to take part in the next quarter, which would be in July, the Attorney General's Office said you need to register your number by Tuesday, May 17th.

You can register either by calling 1-888-834-9969 or by filling out the online form by clicking here.

Once signed by the governor, this new bill would take effect July 1st.
