TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - One of your New Year's resolutions may be to get into better physical shape.
Gyms across the Wabash Valley are seeing a sudden increase in their membership enrollment.
News 10 spoke with members of the Vigo County YMCA and Anytime Fitness in Terre Haute to see if there's a trend.
Both businesses said the numbers fluctuate around the start of the new year, while admitting their busiest times where people frequent the gyms are usually during the months of January and February.
The YMCA said it has over 3,000 members, and they've enrolled three to six more people-per-day.
"I expect to see more people coming in with their New Year's resolutions. They want to work out, they want to play pickleball or basketball. We have a lot of people doing that every day, so there's going to be a lot of people here," Vigo County YMCA Membership Representative Parker Fulkerson said.
One way the YMCA will try to keep members engaged in working out and losing weight is by making weight loss beneficial for you and the the youth in need in Vigo County.
Starting mid-January, Vigo County YMCA will partner with United Way this year in their Lose A Ton, Give A Ton campaign.
For every pound your lose, a pound of food will go to Vigo County's Backpack for Kids Lunch program.
