GREENE CO., Ind. (WTHI) - UPDATE: According to Greene County Highway Superintendent, Brent Murray, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will assist Greene County Highway in opening Lone Tree Road from State Road 54 to State Road 48.

This will provide a corridor for access to Greene County General Hospital which is located on Lone Tree Road.

A Greene County Board of Commissioners declared a Snow Emergency and closed down its county roads.

As of 3:31 p.m. EST, Greene County Board of Commissioners declared a Snow Emergency for Greene County.  All county roads are closed except to emergency traffic.  This remains in effect until further notice.

The Greene County Highway Superintendent has said the county roads are impassable due to the excess snow and slush causing wrecks and slide-offs.

Three wrecked trucks have been reported, and county officials believe the roads will not open until Friday.

The Highway Superintendent is requesting only emergency personnel to be on roads.

They said, unless it is an emergency, please stay inside and off the roads.
