Getting last minute Spring Break deals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - It's getting down to crunch time for many spring breakers. If you think you're going to be stranded at home, here's some advice that could turn your week off around.

"Spring break is a week of rest and relaxation," said Sean Wells, a Senior at Indiana State University. "You get away from tests, midterms, homework, work, anything."

For Sean, any place but school is the best place to spend spring break. That's why he's headed to Las Vegas.

However, before he booked, Sean did his homework to get the best deal; and so should you.

Let's start with airfare. Instead of booking through the airline, let sites like Travelocity or Kayak compare prices for you.

Another great website for deals is airfarewatchdog.com . All you have to do it put in where you want to travel, and it will notify you when cheap flights become available.

If you use Priceline 's Name-Your-Price tool, you can save up to 40%. The only catch, however, is that once you bid, they choose your flight time and carrier.

If you're looking for a specific time to grab the best deal, try Tuesday at 3:00 P.M. EST. That's when the lowest fares are available.

No matter what airline you fly, your best chance for low fares is flying Tuesday or Wednesday. Also, try to fly in the early morning or late night, or even standby.

"The good thing is flying in the middle of the week on a Wednesday, it won't be too crowded," said Sean. "I'm going on a big plane anyways so i'm almost confident that it'll be no problem.''

When you get to your destination, you're probably thinking hotel. However, you might want to try renting, which could be half the price. These savings will add up the longer you stay.

Finally, before you book, consider setting sail.

With one or two recent lessnthan-stellar outings, cruises are going very cheap. Plus.. they offer all the amenities for one low cost.
