TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Judy and Brent Anderson had been married for nearly 50 years. Brent died in a vehicle crash on Sunday.
To the public, they were the first couple of Terre Haute during Judy's term as Mayor, but those who knew Brent said he was a great man in his own right.
"He had a very good sense of humor and he saw the humor in many, many things," former ISU head football coach and good friend Dennis Raetz said.
Raetz called Brent Anderson one of his best friends.
The two shared a common bond of coaching football. Anderson had coached at South Vermillion High School for many years. Raetz said he was stunned by the news.
"He's a loss not only to me individually, and to the high school football community but to the community at large, and so he's someone that will be missed by a great many people," Raetz said.
"I still can't really believe it," Judge Phillip Adler said. He knows the family very well. He can't say enough about the type of person Brent Anderson was.
He hopes the community will understand the man they've lost, and the impact he had.
"They're just helping people. That's in their DNA. They're just giving people. Judy and Brent are. That's probably what I remember most about Brent, " Adler said.
