VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Texting behind the wheel became illegal in the Hoosier state more than a month ago.

We wanted to find out are drivers yielding to the new law?

News 10 went roadside to see what drivers are really doing behind the wheel.

Our crew saw many drivers smoking, eating and chatting on their cells.

In just 15 minutes we caught three drivers texting.

But it was even too fast for our camera lens to get a good look.

However, it's even harder for law enforcement.

They put the phone in their lap, if we can't see the phone we can't see them texting,” Vigo County Sheriff Deputy Brent Hall said.

Deputy Hall said the new law is nearly impossible to enforce.

While he hasn't cited anyone for texting he said drivers are still doing it, but it's tough to catch them.

He said the real solution is to go hands-free or phone-free all together.
