Donna Huxford: February 2012's Make a Difference Award

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Donna Huxford sews for the 21-gun salute to help honor those veterans that were killed while serving our country.

"The family wanted to keep these casings when there was a funeral. And they had been putting them in Ziploc bags," Huxford said.
    
That's when an auxiliary commander approached her with a request, to make bags to hold the bullet casings.

The idea caught on, and more requests came in, from places like Clay City, Rockville, Illinois, and even Cincinatti, Ohio.
    
"I couldn't seem to make enough of them. The different legions and VFW's such, that would see them and they wanted to know where Rosedale got theirs," she said.
    
Six years later, she's made about one thousand of them, all for no charge.

"It's been a busy time at our house, I'll tell ya."
    
A cause close to her heart, her husband was in the navy and both her husband and son in the air force, she's just happy to have an impact.
    
"I know they're appreciated, but I probably get more good out of it than they do."

As she looks through Christmas, thank you's, and gift cards she's received from families through the years, she knows she's made a difference.
