VERMILLION CO., Ind. (WTHI) - A father and son are dead, with another relative severely injured, but in stable condition, after a fatal crash on I-74 near the 6-mile-marker in northern Vermillion Co., involving their car and a semi.

Deputies, Firefighters, Police and EMS from Vermillion and other surrounding counties, along with Indiana State Police Troopers responded to a 911 call around 7:35 p.m. on Sunday about a bad accident.

The caller stated that a semi-tractor-trailer collided with a passenger vehicle, and there were multiple victims trapped within the mangled vehicle.

Rescue crews were able to remove David Brintlinger, 55 of Galloway, OH, his 15-year-old son, and Darrell Brintlinger (David’s brother), 55.

David was pronounced dead at the scene. His son, Tyler Brintlinger, 15, was immediately airlifted to Carle Hospital in Champaign, IL; however, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, Darrell, suffering from severe injuries, was also airlifted to Carle Hospital.

Though he’s still listed in serious condition, medical personnel were able to stabilize him.

The driver of the Semi-Tractor-Trailer, Oleg Buzilan of Pensacola, FL was transported to Union Hospital in Clinton for treatment of minor injuries and released.

I-74 was shut down for approximately 11 hours (eastbound side) with the west bound side closed for approximately 8 hours.

The multiple county departments that responded included: Vermillion Co. Sheriff R. Spence, Fountain Co. Deputy A. Kraut, Covington Officer M. Griffith, Fountain Co. Deputy T. Holt, Vermillion Co. Reserve Deputy D. Leightgable, Vermillion Co. Reserve Deputy J. Ingram, Vermillion Co. Reserve Deputy T. Rusk, Warren Co. Deputy P. Dodson and Indiana State Police

According to Vermillion Co. Sheriff Spence, the Brintlingers' vehicle was stopped in the roadway; however, it is unknown as to why they were stopped.

Deputy Troy Vaughn, and ISP Investigator Jim Cody will be conducting an in-depth investigation into this case.

News 10 will have more information as it becomes available.
