FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTHI) - A Farmersburg homeowner steps up to defend her neighborhood against a string of vehicle and garage break-ins.

About three weeks ago Lisa Taylor says her car was broken into along with several neighbors’ cars and garages.

Police and the town marshal patrolled the streets but they say the hard part is trying to catch the thieves in the act.

Taylor decided to lend a helping hand in an attempt to starting a Neighborhood Watch Program.

"All the board members were very receptive and our town marshal was too. They said they would help me with anything they can. They've tried this before but they didn't have a good response. So I'm hoping if I can get enough people involved, this time it will work."

Farmersburg's town marshal says he's attempted to start up the program for years but has never had a good enough response.

Taylor says the success of the program actually getting started relies on the number of volunteers who decide to step up to the plate.

If any community members from the Farmersburg area are interested in the Neighborhood Watch Program, they can contact Lisa Taylor at (812) 239-4333.
