CARLISLE, Ind. (WTHI) - The advisory board for a Wabash Valley Correctional Facility knows the importance of inmate education.
The prison offers education to their inmates in exchange for credit time off their sentence.
A study of the program shows that educating offenders saves money for the prison and increases the likelihood that those inmates will not end up in prison again.
"We've also known for years that the more education an offender could receive while they were doing time, the better adjusted they were to doing that time," Program Director at Ivy Tech Jim Hendrix said.
Education also helps offenders to get a job once they are released from prison.
