Dry conditions fuel grass fire

Sullivan, Ind. (WTHI) - Several fire department battle a huge grass fire in Sullivan County, Indiana early Tuesday.

Crews were called at around 12:30 a.m. to County Road 275 East, just south of S.R. 54 between Sullivan and Dugger.

News 10's Chief Photojournalist Mike Latta was told this is state Department of Natural Resources property, and is very wooded with a few lakes.

At least five fire departments and four brush trucks from different departments battled the blaze.

Sullivan Fire Chief Rob Robertson said the large fire is an important reminder of how quickly things can get out of control with our extremely dry conditions.

"It burned a lot of acreage out here, and it could have happened other places where it's close to houses and stuff like that. It's really dangerous with dry conditions, so everybody just needs to kind of watch what they're doing".

An official cause for the fire has not been determined.

Luckily, no injuries were reported.
