TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The dry conditions have fire crews working hard on Wednesday to keep field fires from spreading.
Trucks from Terre Haute city and Otter Creek township were called out after a fire began in this field near the intersection of 13th and Haythorne.
Police officers blocked off both streets due to heavy smoke in the area.
Fire officials believe someone might have thrown a cigarette out of a car starting the fire.
"One little cigarette can cause this much of a problem," Terre Haute Fire Chief Jeff Fisher said. "People need to think about things like that. If you're going to smoke, put your cigarette out in your ash tray in your vehicle don't throw out your window because things like this can happen."
