VIGO CO., Ind. (WTHI) - A Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputy is fortunate to be safe at home Monday morning, after his cruiser was struck by a semitrailer while he worked the scene of a car fire Sunday night.
Deputy Jim Haley was working the scene of a car fire on U.S. 41 and S.R. 246, when according to Indiana State Police, a two-trailer semitrailer, traveling at high speeds, started to pass the deputy.
When the second trailer hit a snow patch, the semitrailer driver lost control and the second trailer struck Deputy Haley’s vehicle.
The Deputy was taken to a local hospital and released; however, the cruiser was stated as a total loss.
The semitrailer driver was ticketed for Driving too Fast to Avoid a Collision.
