EDGAR COUNTY, Ill (WTHI) - Police say alcohol was involved in a crash that killed two people in Edgar County, Illinois.
It happened a little before 7:00 Sunday night on lower Terre Haute Road near Edgar County Road 800 North.
Police say Anita Rhodes, 58, of Paris, Illinois was driving south in the north-bound lane of traffic.
Lester Shumaker, 48, of Chrisman, Illinois was in the north-bound lane and tried to avoid Rhodes' Chevy Tahoe.
Shumaker steered his Ford Focus station wagon into the south-bound lane of traffic, but was unable to get out of Rhodes' way and was hit by her vehicle.
Four people were inside Shumaker's vehicle at the time of the crash.
Passengers Merrilyn E. Shumaker, 71, of Chrisman, IL and Micheala Maye Fitzsimmons, 17, also of Chrisman, IL, both died in the accident.
The driver of the other vehicle, Anita Rhodes, was charged with improper lane usage and felony driving under the influence of alcohol.
