Madisonville, KY (WTHI) - John Cunningham, 41, and his wife, Janet Cunningham, 43, were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon without incident by Kentucky State Police and U.S. Marshals near Madisonville, Kentucky. Authorities began searching for the Cunninghams Tuesday in connection with a shooting. Officers believe the couple shot the man on Monday.
Police believe the couple shot the man in Johnson County, Illinois. According to a press release from Illinois State Police, the Cunninghams, both convicted felons were wanted as persons of interest in the shooting and are being held on Johnson County charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. The Cunninghams were found sleeping in a stolen vehicle near a truck stop, said police.
John and Janet could have been traveling through Indiana, said police. Madisonville, Kentucky is about a two-hours drive from Johnson County, Illinois. Additional charges are anticipated, said the press release.
