TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - President Barack Obama delivered his message to a packed congressional house.

Indiana Congressman Larry Bucshon has since responded to the President’s remarks.

President Obama laid out plans on gun control, the economy and bringing troops home from Afghanistan.

But his critics say, the big message of the night was weapons legislation.

Congressman Bucshon said weapons legislation may be a smaller problem in front of a bigger issue.

“But what we need to discuss in this country is why we have such a violent society?...I think right now the this issue is being politicized for a variety of reasons. I think we need to politicize the process, and talk about the things we really need to do to get violence down in our country. That includes our drug problem, our poverty problem, our mental health issues, assist people with mental illnesses,” said Congressman Bucshon.
