Community saves Sullivan animal shelter

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - The Wabash Valley answered a local animal shelters cry for help.
The Humane Society of Sullivan County reached maximum capacity after taking in more than 50 cats and dogs last week.
A large amount of the animals came from a hoarding situation where police had to seize the pets.
Thanks to the community, the shelter was able to adopt out more animals than they received.
Stephanie Wilson a kennel staff member with Humane Society of Sullivan Co. said, "We finally have some breathing room. We had over 60 dogs and cats go to foster homes including Saturday we had 7 cat adoptions here and I believe that is a record for us here. It has been wonderful."
Wilson said the Humane Society of Sullivan Co. is very grateful.
The shelter received donations statewide and even a monetary donation from a family in Virginia.
But the humane society still needs help.
They're asking for kitty litter, old bath towels and cleaning products.
