TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - "Providing security through blankets." That's Project Linus's motto.
Every February, Project Linus holds "Make a Blanket Day" nationwide.
Volunteers from the community crafted blankets to give to children in need.
Organizers say they refer to it as a security blanket, and they think it’s an important part of helping a child through a difficult circumstance.
“Children need something to hold on to when they're going through a difficult situation they may not understand. Having a homemade blanket there reminds them that someone cares enough to make a homemade item that's special for them. It's a tangible item they can hold on to and cling to that will give them some comfort and a little bit of love,” said Rachel Plunkett, chapter coordinator.
Union Hospital, Hamilton Center and various foster care agencies will receive the blankets when they're finished.
