CODA forced to close housing

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Terre Haute Council on Domestic Abuse will begin the process of closing the doors for their transitional housing complex.

The announcement came earlier this week after months of working through options. In early 2013, CODA received word from the Department of Housing and Urban Development that they would lose their $87,000 annual grant.

This comes alongside HUDs push to focus more on permanent solutions for housing than temporary fixes.

The board of directors eventually decided that closing the location on Hulman Street in Terre Haute would be the best option for them.

The housing option will remain open through October 2013. After that, CODA will continue to serve victims of abuse through their core values and more basic means.

The building on Hulman Street remains, built in 1998. CODA is considering working with other local organizations that could utilize the location for similar purposes.
