TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A proposed ordinance drew a crowd, and some heated discussion. Starting in July, Terre Haute will go smoke free.
Now, Vigo County is talking about following suit. Tuesday, county leaders hosted a public forum about the measure.
Folks on both sides were talking about the clean air ordinance in Vigo County.
Under it, starting in July, public establishments will have to go smoke free. Bars are included, but some establishments are still up for discussion; private clubs, like VFW posts.
It's something the commissioners are taking seriously.
"We saw a great mix on both sides tonight and that's very important that both sides have an opportunity to get their message out," Vigo Co. Commissioner Judy Anderson said.
Again, under the city ordinance and state law, bars will be required to go smoke free either way in July. The County will vote on private club policies next Tuesday at the Commissioners meeting.
