Marshall, Ill. (WTHI) - A community outraged at a proposed power line path bands together to speak out.
Wednesday night, Clark County, Illinois residents gathered in Marshall to fight the proposed Illinois Rivers Project by the power company Ameren Energy.
One of the proposed paths of the Illinois Rivers Project by Ameren Energy takes a line of high voltage power cables right through Clark County right through the backyards of the citizens who gathered in Marshall Tonight.
The Stop the Power Line Coalition organized the rally which took place at St. Mary's Parish hall in Marshall.
Several homeowners and business owners explained how the proposed power lines threatened not only their jobs, but their way of life.
Across town, the Marshall City council's weekly meeting had a new resolution at the bottom of their agenda.
The resolution called for the city council to oppose the project something several schools in the county as well as the farm bureau have already done.
The resolution passed unanimously.
Members of the community said Wednesday night was about gathering support to make an impact in the future.
"We want to see everybody excited about coming out and trying to help us and not to think that they cant do anything about it,” Peggy Mills a resident said, “I think if we all work together we can have an impact. So we are just trying to organize the community to know that maybe we can have an impact. "
