UPDATE: Roads reopened after chemical spill

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - UPDATE:  Vigo County Hazmat Crews have informed News 10 that the Sodium Hydroxide spill has been cleaned up, and the roads are opened once again.

A tanker carrying the chemical had a leak in the storage container, which broke open further and spilled onto the streets.

Hazmat Crews were able to clean up with mess without further incident.

A dangerous chemical spill shut down several roads on Terre Haute’s south side Tuesday morning.

News 10 received a call from Vigo County Central Dispatch said Voorhees Street was closed from 3rd Street to 14th Street and all side streets heading north and south off of Voorhees.

Vigo County Dispatch asked everyone to avoid the area.

Fire crews were able to quickly clean up the Caustic Soda: a solution of Sodium Hydroxide spill.
