TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Indiana's rebate program aimed to help stimulate the economy has not had an overwhelming response.

Since February, Hoosiers can participate in the cash for appliances program. If you buy an Energy star rated furnace, heating, ventilation or air conditioning system you can get anywhere from a $150 to $1,000 rebate.

But according to state government website, less than 17 percent of the available money has been used.

Local contractors like Scott Jones with Super Heating and Cooling said he is surprised by the lack of a response.

"We thought this would be a real boost for area contractors, as a whole," said Jones. "And not a whole lot of people have taken advantage of it."

Indiana still has almost $5 million dollars still available. Click here for more information.

Illinois has gotten $12.3 million. Some money is available right now, some becomes available next month. Click here for more information.
