Businesses benefit from winter weather

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Wabash Valley most likely hasn't seen the last of the cold temperatures or slick driving conditions. Winter isn't even halfway over.

"We watch the weather every night. We get a live up to date weather forecast through AAA broadcast to our smart phones, [computers, and in our cab computers]. We're up to date constantly on what the weather changes could possibly be," Andrews Towing LLC Owner Dennis Andrews said.

Andrews Towing says the lower the temperatures, the more calls coming in.

"Anytime after that first snow or ice fall, then it's full steam ahead," Andrews said.

One car came in a couple weeks ago during the snow and ice storm.

It was just one of the nearly 1,100 calls Andrews Towing runs a month throughout seven counties in the Wabash Valley. That's about 35 per day.

Out on the road, everyone is facing the same conditions, which is why they keep these vehicles in peak performance.

"Our trucks are the newer trucks, we keep them DOT inspected…We have everything ready to go on them. They're on a regimen of maintenance," he said.

Businesses like Andrews Towing are prepared for the worst.

"We're ready to go," said Andrews.

It reminds you to be careful and check your car often to help avoid those concerning calls.

During the summer driving season, Andrews Towing is called out for more long-distance tows.

It's seen a 25 percent increase in business over last year.
