CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A bridge closes in eastern Clay County for safety concerns.

News 10 recently reported of weight restrictions placed on the Eel River Bridge on State Road 46 due to recent inspections made by the Indiana Department of Transportation.

On Tuesday afternoon, INDOT officials closed the bridge due to corrosion in the structural steel.

Crews have created detours for folks traveling in the area.

Those include:

  • Eastbound traffic will be detoured over S.R. 59 south to S.R. 246 east and back to S.R. 46.
  • Westbound traffic will be detoured over S.R. 246 west to S.R. 59 north and back to S.R. 46.
  • The state highway detour through Clay City adds approximately seven miles.

An official timeline for the reopening of the bridge is unknown at this time.
