Body found near Grotto Road is identified as Charles Chumley

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Late Tuesday afternoon, Vigo County Coroner Dr. Roland Kohr officially identified the body found in northeastern Vigo County on Sunday, March 14, as that of missing person Charles Raymond Chumley Jr., age 30, of Brazil, IN.

The body of Charles Raymond Chumley Jr. was partially decomposed and had to be identified through dental records.

There is still no cause of death determined and investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology tests, which could take up to two weeks.

The investigation by Indiana State Police detectives is ongoing and no other information is available.

The family has been notified.

Charles Raymond Chumley Jr. was last seen on December 8, 2009, 11:45p.m. near 11300 East Davis Ave., Terre Haute. He reportedly left his wife in a vehicle in the driveway and walked into a nearby wooded area. He allegedly told his wife he would return in 15 minutes. Chumley never returned nor was he seen again. The Davis Ave location is nearly one mile north of where his remains were located.
