Body found in Vigo County

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A death investigation is underway, after officials discovered a dead body in a wooded area Sunday afternoon in eastern Vigo County.

Police say a man was surveying some property at home near Grotto Road and Miami Gardens Street when he came across a dead body.
Members from the Vigo County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police responded to the scene.

Officials don't know exactly how long the body had been there. But they did say it shows signs of decay. "There are similarities in clothing to an active missing person's case currently being investigated by ISP detectives," Indiana State Police said.

News 10 asked if the incident could be related to the disappearance Charles Raymond Chumley Jr. who was last seen near Miami Gardens Street.

Officials said they cannot confirm the identity of the person at this time.
