Audit raises questions, new paperwork

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - An audit of Terre Haute's funds in 2011 revealed a new point of concern. According to individuals listed in the audit, it was a paperwork blunder.

Four local officials were listed in the audit report under a clause titled "Conflict of Interest". In essence, the individuals listed did work for the city through their primary jobs. In one instance, it was catering from a restaurant owner. In another, it was printing from the owner of a printing company. The conflict occurs when it's noted that these men are also on the city council.

According to an Indiana statute, an official must file proper paperwork when doing unrelated work for the city. That seems to be the step that was missed in 2011.

According to the four individuals listed, it's simply an oversight. All four say they were unaware of the necessary paperwork and have agreed to fill out the paperwork for future work with the city.

The Terre Haute city attorney told News 10 that while charges are possible in cases such as this, the city is not currently pursuing charges as of now.
