TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Workers and volunteers from across the Wabash Valley Friday started building light displays at Deming Park in Terre Haute preparing for an annual competition. "Christmas In The Park", living in its 26th year, brings together not-for-profit agencies in competition for the best lit shelter. The agencies decorate shelters with Christmas lights and props in hopes of getting first place recognition. Each year judges rank the shelters and hand out awards.

Tyler Keith, a senior patrol leader for the Boy Scouts of America was decorating a shelter in the park Friday. "We just thought it'd be a good idea because there's so many things that we can do, like, we're going to have some snowmen throwing things at other, like, throwing snowballs." said Keith. He was joined by other workers in the park as they worked to come up with the most creative shelter set up.

According to Terre Haute's city website, the exhibits will be lit at 6:00 p.m. Monday, December 3rd. The shelters will be judged December 10th and 6:00 p.m. The exhibit will stay lit until December 26th.
