TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Military personnel from across the state visited Terre Haute this weekend to make sure it's ready for any emergency.

Indiana Air National Guard's 181st Intelligence Wing and the Civil Air Patrol put on its annual search and rescue exercise at Hulman Field in Terre Haute.

It's an opportunity to improve joint response skills during disasters, emergency situations and severe weather events.

The federal and state mission incorporates both ground and air training.

"As part of our state mission, we're responsible to the governor to respond to natural and man made disasters as an auxiliary to the air force. The Civil Air Patrol has a primary mission of actually looking for and conducting search and rescue exercises," Indiana Air National Guard's 181st Intelligence Wing Executive Staff Officer Major Frank Howard said.

Several other local agencies participated in Saturday's event.
