TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Police say on Tuesday night, 59-year old Judy Walters was headed out to the Dumpster outside of the Deming Center where she lives in Terre Haute.

Police say inside the trash bag was her 3-year-old Terrier Mix, named Lacy, dead.

Police believe the dog died after starving inside Walter's apartment.

When Walters was asked about letting her dog die in her apartment she responded: "I didn't exactly let the dog die in my house."

And when asked what did she do, she said: "I didn't do anything."

A picture of Lacy's collar on the dog was taken by officials. The image showcases the previous size of her body.

Another snap shot shows her eyes missing, which officials believe dissipated over time.

"We have had calls like this in the past, but this is just horrible," Terre Haute Code Enforcement officer Tim Manley said.

Walters told police she thought her dog was sleeping, then later realized it was dead.

When asked how she could let her dog starve to death, she responded: "I didn't let my dog starve to death."

Police say the images support a different story.

Miss Walters is now facing charges of cruelty to an animal.

Officials with Terre Haute Code Enforcement say if you find that you can no longer care for your animal, you are urged to call your local animal shelter and make an appointment for them to take your pet in.
