BRAZIL, Ind. (WTHI) - One person is dead after a car crashed into a home at 8659 North Murphy Avenue in Brazil.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened around 1 a.m. A black Chevy Camaro crashed into a utility pole, took out a gas main, and then hit the home. Responders at the scene believe the driver, Robert Dale Neville, 22, was traveling at a high speed before crashing the car.

Houses within a half mile of all sides of the gas main were evacuated. People were allowed to return to their homes after the gas line was repaired just before 6 a.m.

Many residents were taken by school bus to Eastside Elementary and Northview High School.

The national guard armory was also open to folks needing a place as well.

Nobody inside the home was injured in that crash. The coroner reports the driver died of blunt force trauma. It is not yet known if alcohol was a factor.
