TERRE HAUTE, Ine (WTHI) - A new study out by Indiana University shows that less students are choosing to smoke cigarettes.
The good news is cigarette use by Indiana 6th through 12th graders continues to decline. Health officials say they feel like their work is paying off, but the downside is the use of marijuana is on the rise.
There is also an upward trend in monthly and lifetime use of tobacco in pipes.
The study could help direct health educators down a clearer path.
"We haven't been paying that much attention to those forms of tobacco use as we have cigarettes. In the past kids may have not been educated as well on those things. They may also be getting access to those things at home," Indiana Tobacco Prevention educator Carrie Evans said.
