TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Friday was the last day of work for 22 Vigo County employees.
The employees accepted a buyout offer from the Vigo County Commissioners. The plan is to save the county money to help prevent layoffs in the future. One of the biggest departments effected is the maintenance department. A total of six people from maintenance took the buyout.
Now, the county commissioners are looking at out-sourcing those positions to save money.
"According to the bids and things that we are getting back in that is going to be cheaper per year than replacing our maintenance people," Vigo County Commissioner Judy Anderson said.
The County Council must approve any positions where people are hired back.
